Siloam Hospitals Balikpapan (SHBP)
Opening under Siloam brand in 2011, SHBP is the leading private hospital in the natural resource-rich Kalimantan. Strategically located 10 minutes from Sepinggan International Airport, 20 minutes from Semayang Harbour, 10 minutes from Batu Ampat bus station, it can be conveniently accessed by public transport. Today, SHBP provides a comprehensive range of medical services to the standard of the Siloam brand.

Siloam invested US$26 million in the hospital which includes an extensive renovation to increase its capacity to 28 outpatient clinics, 200 beds, 2 Operating Theatres, a Haemodialysis Unit and an 24 hour Trauma Centre (UGD). By the last quarter of 2011, SHBP will be equipped with a new Philips 128 slice CT-Scan, 1.5 Tesla MRI and Cath-Lab.

Based on the international best practice guidelines in relation to the American College of Emergency and also the Australasian College of Emergency, our Trauma RMOs, nursing and paramedical staff have been trained to handle heart attacks, strokes and traumas. Our ambulances are fully staffed with a Trauma RMO, nurse and paramedic and equipped with AED (Automatic External Defibrillator to stop life threatening cardiac arrhythmias and reestablish an effective rhythm) and emergency kit to handle all emergencies. Our 24 hour emergency number is 0542 - 720 6518.

SHBP benefits from the “Hub and Spoke” strategy of Siloam to extend the reach of our experienced specialists in our Siloam “Hub” Hospitals in Jakarta and Surabaya to the “Spoke” hospitals like SHBP.    Through our investment in real-time Tele-medicine capability and Tele-radiology through digital radiology, patients in Balikpapan can have access to experienced specialists in clinical specialties not available there. Clinical information can be transferred through interactive audiovisual media to specialists in our Centres of Excellence (Hub) to provide consultations on a real time basis for diagnosis, treatment and sometimes procedures. This reduces cost and increases the community’s access to a wide range of highly specialized medical services.

Owing to the presence of many MNCs in Balikpapan, SHBP has also set up a SES Super Clinic at the hospital, a primary care clinic targeted specifically to meet the needs for our multicultural clients. Manned by specially trained Indonesian GPs and Nurses, the Clinic provides general consultation, from preventative medicines, chronic disease management, stabilization and evacuation for traffic or industry accidents, to travel advice and vaccination, maternal and child and also specialty referrals for secondary care. This clinic also has International Help Desk that can help to overcome language barriers of our expatriate patients.
